Music Magazine Photos

I have uploaded my photos to Flickr which I may be using for my music magazine. Here is a link to my Flickr page: http://www.flickr.com/photos/56525183@N08/

Proposal

The genre of my music magazine is, Indie Rock and Alternative. I decided to choose this genre because I really enjoy reading the music magazine, NME, so I thought that it would make it easy for me to recreate something which is focusing on a similar genre. The target audience for this musical magazine would be young adults and teenagers as this kind of style is very modern and new so will interest them over adults who stereotypically prefer older music. I came up with many ideas for what I could include as a title for my magazine. I came to the conclusion that the best title is 'Indie Nation.' This is because after looking into titles of other magazines I understood that many had a further meaning into it. For my title you can easily see that the genre is 'Indie' so that would attract young adults instantly and the word 'Nation' suggests that it is for everyone also that this magazine connects everyone around our nation.
For my main coverline I think I will just include the name of the music artist. This is because, as you can see from the above image and other documents below this one, that the music artists name is the large text. Underneath the artists name is usually what the double page spread along with the a quote from the interview. I think that the double page spread will be about her debut album so I think that an appropriate coverline will be "Tiffanys Grand Entrance". I think that I will have to select a quote when I have written my double page spread.I think that for my double page spread I will include an interview with the front page focus about their debut album. Earlier in my blog I included an interview with Blink 182: http://josephbrownmedia.blogspot.com/2010/12/blink-182-interview-inspiration.html . I think that although this interview is not about a debut album it has given me ideas of how to make the interview seem natural and what I could include. I have taken from that interview that I should make the interviewee talk about past experiences and possible influences for her album. Also they talk about the future in the Blink 182 interview. I think that this would be a very appropriate question to ask and I will almost certainly be asking this question to the front page focus.

January 10th

Today I did Contents research and double page spread research. I will finish Proposal before 17th.

NME Double Page Spread Inspiration

Here is two double page spreads from the music magazine, 'NME'. Both of the magazines show one large image on one side and all the text on the other side. I think this allows the reader to clearly understand who the piece is talking about. I also think the the larger image helps us understand what the band or singer is about. For example, I would say the band on the top double page spread are more laid back whereas the bottom one would be more serious. I can also see that on the double page spreads that a colour scheme has been used which suit the band image. The top one has a blue colour scheme to enhance their male laid back attitude and the bottom one is purple to show seriousness. On my double page spread I should think about how I want this artist to be perceived via the colour and font used. For example, if my chosen person or band is quite serious I will use purple or dark blue and a more formal font. As you can see in the middle of the text that there is a quote from the article. This entices the audience to look at this before they read so it can encourage them to read further.

NME Contents Inspiration

This is a look at the contents page from a magazine, NME which looks at generally the same genre of music as I am, Indie Rock, Alternative. I think that this contents page represents the genre of music well because of the modern but simple font and the actual layout of the contents. I think that I will try to replicate this style with keeping the same sort of colour scheme which is used with logo of the magazine. I think that I will want to include more detailed information as to what is coming up later in the magazine as this is what I believe will encourage the reader to read more.
